Low dimensional effects in transition metal oxides

This talk will review some recent results obtained on low dimensional transition metal oxides, in particular Ni and Co oxides. It will be shown that the electronic structure of oxides submonolayer coatings differ from the bulk electronic structure and how it gradually evolves towards the latter one upon increasing coverage. The properties of the initial stages of growth are conditioned by the interaction with the substrate, which can lead to such exotic phenomena as nanopatterning.

Also the effects of thin films nanostructuring on their electronic and functional properties will be reported.
